Off-Campus Access

About

The library’s licensed electronic resources (databases, e-journals, and e-books) are available to current students, faculty, and staff.

When off-campus using a non-OBU network, access to these resources is provided through a proxy server. To connect, you must use the proxy-enabled links on the library's web site or one of the library's LibGuides.

Procedure

To access the library's licensed resources when off campus, you will need (1) a mobile phone with the Microsoft Authenticator app installed, and (2) a computer.  Follow these steps:

  1. Turn on your mobile phone and set it aside.
  2. On your computer, go to the library's web site at obu.edu/library or a LibGuide at https://libguides.obu.edu/?b=g&d=a.
  3. Click on a licensed library resource (e.g., database, e-journal, or e-book).
  4. At the Microsoft login prompts, enter your OBU email address and password.  A numeric code will display.
  5. On your mobile phone, enter the numeric code into the Microsoft Authenticator app.
  6. On your computer, click "Yes, this is my device."
  7. Search or browse the desired licensed library resource.
  8. To access another licensed library resource, use the browser's back arrow to navigate to it.
  9. To end the proxy session, close your browser.

Troubleshooting

If you have problems with off-campus access, make sure your browser software is up-to-date and able to accept cookies. Also, confirm that your network firewall settings allow access to the library’s web site.

Item Linking in Course Materials

Links to licensed resources in course documentation and on Moodle must connect to the library's proxy server. For assistance with creating proxy-enabled links, contact Margaret Reed, electronic resources/periodicals librarian.
